The Magic Hour theme has been a through line in Booooooom's history. From making some Magic Hour Photo Club hats and our first Magic Hour zine, to diving headfirst into the world of publishing photo books. In the years since our first Magic Hour book many people have asked whether this theme would ever come back, so we are thrilled to announce the return of Magic Hour.\xa0

Calling all photographers! We're excited to announce an open call to submit images to our next photo book, Magic Hour II. If you're not familiar with the term, “Magic Hour” is that period after sunrise or before sunset where the light is soft and has a warmer colour temperature than usual (also referred to as “golden hour”).
\xa0
Our first Magic Hour book featured images from over 60 photographers and our goal is to feature even more this time. If you want to see some more spreads, or get a better idea of what type of work we are looking for, you can see some spreads from our first bookhere.\xa0
\xa0
We can't wait to see what you've captured over the last few years!\xa0

A selection of paintings by artist Daniel Fleur. Fleur was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and lives and works in Malmö, Sweden. Characterized by rich, layered textures and use of colour, Fleur's paintings are inspired by his daily life and explore themes such as the pleasures and pressures of modern living, the materialism of contemporary society, and the complexities of social status and identity. Fleur's paintings are also infused with a sense of playfulness, using humour to temper some of the weightiness of his subject matter. An important motivation behind his artwork is making the ordinary extraordinary and transforming the way we see and experience the world.\xa0

A lovely update to a series by American photographer Whitney Hayes. Currently living and working in Manhattan and New Jersey, Hayes began taking photos professionally later in life–after raising a family and caring for her mother who was stricken with early onset Alzheimer's. For the past three summers Hayes has been working in the Highlands Natural Pool in Ringwood, New Jersey. “Solemn August” is an effort to reflect that “magical” place:
\xa0
“Unexpected, it is an oasis in the middle of a forrest. A place that is welcoming to all, and full of untouched natural beauty, these images have been a joy to create. A non profit, the pool is largely maintained by a dedicated group of board members who volunteer their time. True to the pool's origins, the board members maintain a chemical free pool that is open to the public and kind to the environment.”
