A series drawing parallels between womanhood and forms and patterns found in nature by illustrator Noopur Choksi. Choksi is from India and currently based in Baltimore. She studied Graphic Design at the National Institute of Design and recently graduated with an MFA in Illustration Practice from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Her work is an effort to externalize the often intangible emotional environments of her subjects. She strives to create visuals that challenge perception and offer layered interpretations. “The nature of being” explores the interplay between individuality, social constructs, and the natural world:
\xa0
“With aspects of the self materialized in nature, at the heart of this lies an inquiry into the complex relationship between our inner and outer worlds. By intertwining facets of science, nature, surrealism, and symbolism, I aim to vividly depict the ethereal, the introspective, and the liminal realms. How can we explore the female body without succumbing to the pitfalls of biological determinism? How can I visualize the wonders, limitations, absurdities, and expressions of womanhood in a way that is intimate yet universal?”

A series of UV printed photographs on bubble wrap by Los Angeles-based artistRosie Clements. While Clements started out as a traditional photographer, she has recently begun to introduce materiality to digital images–to “reconstitute them in a physical body”:
\xa0
“Often discarded after a single use, bubble wrap mirrors the fleeting nature of digital pictures easily shared and forgotten in our media-saturated world. The bubbles allude to individual pixels rendered tactile. The works demand the viewer spend time with them–some are only legible from the right angle or distance, and up close are almost completely abstracted.”
\xa0
The series invites the viewer to reconsider the way they interact with images, and emphasizes the importance of texture and materiality in an era dominated by the intangible digital realm. See more from “Pure Semblance” at the link below.
