Simply The Beth
Hey there! When my team asked me to create a bouquet for our Mother's Day collection that my mom would love, I knew immediately that it had to have carnations in it - and not just a few, but a lot! Now, I know you might all be thinking - ewwww, carnations? And I get it. They’re the flower so many of you say you like the least, and that’s the nice way of saying it. And, up until I started Farmgirl, I actually would have agreed with you. But that’s because what came to mind when thinking about carnations were the dyed, primary color monstrosities hanging out in floral department buckets at grocery stores across the nation for waaaay too long. But I think it’s about time we give them another chance - and not just because they’re my mom, Beth Stembel’s, favorite flower. But because they’re the flower that personifies probably the baddest of all bad *sses out there, which is exactly what my mom is (sorry, Mom!!).\xa0 And that’s because they’re one of the most dependable, resilient, hard-working, longest lasting, and even fiscally responsible flowers on the market. They’re no (literal) shrinking violet to be sure, with a vase life of several weeks or months, at least if you keep them in the fridge like my mom’s been known to do. They never have to steal the show, and are happy being super supportive of those who need the limelight (roses, ranunculus - I'm looking at you). And they cost about 10% of what showier, show off-ier peonies cost, which is a quality my stretch-a-dollar-like-a-tshirt-on-a-clothing-line mom would definitely appreciate? The bonus? They’re one of the few flowers that still have a fragrance, and a unique one to boot. It's not too sweet but not too spicy, either.\xa0 So, all in all, I can totally understand why she’s my sweet mama’s favorite flower - and she’s now pretty high up on my list as well. If you agree, you may love the “Simply the Beth” as much as I do, which is why I made it in honor of the very best Beth I know. xo, Christina
