How does water quality impact your favorite drink? \xa0 This week, we’re beginning a new series on unexpected uses for filtered water. Water filtration is important for so much more than just drinking water. From your favorite hand-crafted latte to aquariums and gardening, we’ll cover it all!\xa0 Let’s start with beverages. Whether you opt for a steaming cup of coffee, an ice-cold beer, or a crisp soda, filtered water plays a vital role in the final product.
\xa0 Coffee:Water makes up about 98% of coffee and espresso drinks. Water affects how extracts and oils come out of the beans, the taste of the coffee in your cup, and even the health of your brewing machine. Chlorine and chloramines especially impact the taste of coffee but can be reduced by activated carbon filters or reverse osmosis systems. Low mineral content (which causes flat-tasting coffee) can be remedied with a remineralization filter, and water softeners prevent limescale buildup in brewing machines.\xa0 |
