March Update

Dear Shrooly Backers,

\xa0

We're excited to share our latest manufacturing progress and project developments with you. As we've pushed forward, our primary focus has been on successfully resolving the mechanical issues outlined in our previous update. We're pleased to report that we haven't encountered any new significant issues during this period. Our team has been diligently preparing for the final stage of production testing and logistics planning—essential steps as we gear up to ship thousands of devices. While there are still several critical steps remaining before full-scale production can commence, we're excited to announce a monumental achievement: we've officially placed the first Purchase Order for the initial container of devices. This significant milestone marks a pivotal moment in our journey toward bringing Shrooly to life.

\xa0

Now, let's delve into the highlights from March!

\xa0

Manufacturing and product updates

\xa0

Production Validation Test

\xa0

\xa0

There are a total of three production stages that must be completed before we can proceed to mass production. We've already completed the Engineering and Design Validation Tests, and the final stage ahead of us is the Production Validation Test (PVT). While the mechanical design has already been validated, the purpose of this stage is to further validate the exact processes, assembly steps, and quality control measures that we'll implement when starting mass production on a scale of thousands.

\xa0

Within the scope of the PVT, we're producing 200 new devices, which we anticipate will be completed by April 18th. Four of our engineers will be flying to our production partner to oversee the process in person. We expect to receive these units at our office in the first week of May, some of which we'll use as early-release units for field testing.

\xa0

Barring any unforeseen developments, we're poised to move forward to the eagerly awaited mass production stage.

\xa0

Mass production

\xa0

While there are still significant steps ahead of us before we can confidently "push the green button" to start producing thousands of units, we're committed to ensuring that all necessary conditions are in place for mass production to commence as soon as we pass all tests and requirements. Consequently, we've already placed the purchase order for the first batch of mass-produced devices. Assuming everything proceeds according to plan, we anticipate these devices will be completed by late May after which there will be a four-week transit time until they arrive at our EU warehouse. Making the purchase order marks a significant milestone, indicating that our production partner is already sourcing the components on the scale required for mass production to proceed promptly upon receiving positive results from the previously detailed PVT.

\xa0

Resolving previous issues

\xa0

In our previous update, we mentioned two unexpected minor but time-consuming issues. We're delighted to inform you that, thanks to our dedicated work and rapid iteration schedule, we've successfully resolved these issues, as detailed below.

\xa0

One area we had to improve was Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Testing. The electromagnetic noise levels emitted by the device exceeded prescribed limits at a specific frequency, potentially delaying certification. These levels originated from the touch buttons and water level sensors. However, after implementing targeted software changes, we successfully passed the preliminary EMC Test.

\xa0

\xa0

Another challenge we encountered was inconsistent humidity readings from the current sensor due to inadequate sealing around its edges. This led to inaccuracies in measuring humidity levels within Shrooly. To address this issue, we developed a new design with improved sealing, resulting in accurate test results. Implementing this change involved deploying a new custom sealing technology and adjusting existing injection molding tools. The next 200 units produced will incorporate this change, allowing us to validate it on a larger scale soon.

\xa0

\xa0

An unexpected issue arose after our last update, wherein environmental changes caused false touch data readings on the display menu's touch buttons. After extensive testing, we developed a solution embedded in the device's firmware: a new mathematical model for touch detection calibration that considers environmental factors. This adjustment ensures reliable touch inputs despite changing conditions.

\xa0

With these changes implemented, we've finalized the hardware for the Production Validation Testing (PVT) units after some minor modifications. Comprehensive testing has been completed, and all results meet our requirements.

\xa0

Shipping schedule update

\xa0

\xa0

We've made some adjustments to our shipping timeline based on recent quotes from shipping companies. Originally, we anticipated a shorter transit time from China to our warehouse. However, it's now expected to take an additional two weeks, bringing the total shipping time to four weeks.

\xa0

As a result, instead of beginning shipments in the 25th week, we now anticipate starting on the 27th week, around July 1st. Rest assured, everything is proceeding as planned on the production side. We view this adjustment as minor and don't anticipate any significant impact on our overall timeline.

\xa0

App updates

\xa0

\xa0

After analyzing initial feedback and conducting research, it's evident that our users value clear and detailed information about the growing process. Therefore, we've dedicated significant effort to improving this feature.

\xa0

Over the past month, we've introduced new educational materials to guide you through each stage of the growing process. These materials provide insights into daily progress and help you anticipate when your mushrooms will be ready for harvest.

\xa0

In addition, we've prioritized improving the reliability of the connection between the app and the device. While our Bluetooth communication protocol was already functional, we've implemented an even more robust solution. With this upgrade, we anticipate achieving greater connection stability for an enhanced user experience.

\xa0

Firmware updates

\xa0

As part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring excellence in every aspect of the Shrooly experience, we've taken steps to meticulously review even the smallest details. One significant enhancement is the integration of a new Self Test Mode into the product's software.

\xa0

This Self Test Mode offers comprehensive functionality, diagnosing core features such as the air exchange fan, humidifier, LEDs, and more. It serves as a valuable addition for both assembly processes and customer use.

\xa0

For assembly, the Self Test Mode enables a thorough review of each component's functionality. Additionally, customers can utilize the self-troubleshooting program independently. This versatile feature enhances the device's lifecycle, facilitating production and post-sales support alike.

\xa0

Enhancing Printed Circuit Board quality control

\xa0

We've established a new, robust framework for procuring electronic components for Shrooly devices, focusing on PCB Incoming Quality Control (IQC). This process rigorously evaluates PCBs for various applications, meticulously inspecting components. Our aim is to guarantee that only fully functional PCBs are used in Shrooly device assembly.

\xa0

User Manual and Device Packaging completed

\xa0

Crafting the user manual involved precise attention to legal requirements across applicable countries. We've tailored its style to ensure ease of use, detailing every crucial step for an optimal experience. The manual is now complete, and you can preview it below.

Additionally, we've achieved a significant milestone by finalizing the design of our device packaging, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and legal compliance.

\xa0

\xa0

Cultivation update

\xa0

We're currently in the final stages of designing the Pod packaging, with a focus on maximizing safety during shipment and handling of the growing Pods.

\xa0

Additionally, we've expanded our mycology research to explore the cultivation of different cultures within the same mushroom strain. While many are familiar with broad categories like "Pink Oyster" or "Lion's Mane" mushrooms, there's a lesser-known diversity within these categories. Each culture within a strain may share similar fruiting bodies but possess distinct attributes for growth. Our current experiments aim to optimize the growing environment tailored to specific cultures, such as a promising Lion's Mane culture we've identified.

\xa0

\xa0

Logistics update

\xa0

Establishing efficient logistics and fulfillment processes is crucial for our success, so we're currently deeply involved in planning them out in advance.

\xa0

We're actively engaged in discussions with potential partners renowned for their expertise in managing large-scale inventory and processing millions of orders accurately. Stay tuned for more updates as we progress further in these discussions.

\xa0

What’s next for Shrooly?

\xa0

Our primary focus now is overseeing the production of the next 200 devices as part of the Production Validation run. We're optimistic that everything will proceed according to plan, allowing us to move forward with mass production next month—a moment we've all been eagerly anticipating.
