We would like to share with you the next steps regarding the development of Never Ending Dungeon, our future plans, and the continuous improvement of the application.

Early Access Feedback

Since the Early Access release, we have received a lot of mixed, yet constructive feedback. We decided to shift the direction of our development towards the guidelines and expectations that the users have voiced to be very important to them.

Current Updates and Development Focus

Map Generation

We are working on overhauling the way maps are created. Our focus is to improve the logical cohesion of how they are laid out, as well as allowing more freedom on user input, while focusing on user-friendliness.

We are developing two approaches to map creation:

• User-created maps from scratch: We aim to provide you with the perfect tool for quickly yet accurately creating the maps you want to play your adventures on.
• Maps created by NED based on user guidelines: If you wish not to spend time creating a map from scratch, you can command NED to prepare it for you and make further edits if necessary.

AI Model Fine-Tuning

Based on your feedback, we are bringing the AI experience closer to the user. We plan on shipping NED with a portable neural net and a series of fine-tuning adapters that will allow real-time adventure generation on a gaming computer with at least 8GB VRAM and CUDA. Should this hardware not be available to the user, there will be a CPU and cloud option.

As it may be known, ML-based AI is creative and bizarre, but often inaccurate. The new approach is for AI to generate the story/adventure based on the map (user-made or procedurally generated). This will lead to far greater logical correctness which TTRPG players desire, while improving AI quality. For user interaction, there will be a user-friendly UI with a toggleable panel for advanced options, with the only foreseeable UI restriction being raw text input.

NED and its future on Steam platform

Due to a mismatch between our subscription product and the Steam platform, as well as some release-related issues,\xa0we have decided to launch NED on our own launcher.\xa0This will allow us to better support our product and provide a more seamless experience.

We are working diligently to launch our launcher by the end of June.\xa0This transition will give us more control over the product and support.\xa0Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us on\xa0Discord.

For those who have already activated NED on Steam, your current version will continue to work without any interruptions. For backers who haven't activated their keys yet, we will be sending out invitations to our new launcher as soon as possible. Even if you have already received a Steam key, you will be granted access to our new launcher as well. :)
