The solstice is on us here in New York and the first heat wave of the summer to boot. Ancient monuments were often built around this day, and while we have a little sun worship in us, what we truly revere is experimentation. Way back on Tuesday we dropped two products in the experimentalNycogazefabric. At 80gsm this is the lightest knit we’ve ever worked with, a dry and barely there take on a cotton jersey. More precisely it’s 70% cotton, with the remaining 30% being a nylon core that the cotton is wrapped around, allowing for a much lighter fabric without sacrificing too much durability. To open it up even further the fabric is finished with an enzyme cleaning that burns away any fuzzy fluff, leaving a dry, open and precise knit structure. When worn it’s mostly opaque with a hint of translucency, but more importantly it weighs nearly nothing while keeping a wide open airflow for breathability. Things get extra juicy next week with the debut of theSunwarp, an easier to wear sunblock.Ramielustis our cheat code for the hot and humid whileDreamweightfloats us in the dry sun, but wet and sunny is a third problem with its own dynamics and that’s where theSunwarpcomes in. Wearing a skin tight polyester in the high sun is rather counterintuitive to us, loose and natural is where all our instincts go, but theSunwarpinverts all that and it works wonders. Warp knit in Italy this Oeko-tex 100 certified fabric, is super soft and super stretchy with a 26% elastane content. At UPF 50+ this real deal sun protection, and unlike most sunblocks this is both easy to put on and doesn’t wear off over the day. Direct summer sun can add 10-15º F to the apparent temperature and theSunwarpcuts that right out. The real counterintuitive part though is how skin tight polyester feels when you sweat, pushing the moisture away from the body to accentuate your natural cooling processes. It’s not air conditioning of course but it’s a whole lot better than being burnt and a whole lot drier than anything outside ofRamielust. One thing that we’ve always loved about poly is that it can be dye sublimated, a printing process that actually chemically bonds to the fabric as a dye rather than just sitting on top as a pigment. This creates beautiful prints that are completely submerged into the fibers for soft and smooth touch. We’re just getting started with the subprint process but next Tuesday we’ll be releasing the first experiments as well, theSunwarp Subprint Rawcut Tank(experiment #451) andSunwarp Subprint Arms(experiment #452).\xa0

Introduced earlier this year with theLinenfoil Camp Collar, this light, crispy and textured linen rich (60%) fabric is blended with viscose (30%) and poly (10%) to give it an easy wearing Hollywood wrinkle.
