Green River Distilling Co. is the perfect marriage of a historic backstory backed up by great whiskey. Green River was originally established in 1885 but closed down before Prohibition due to a fire. It wasn't until 2014 that the property was acquired and renovations began. In 2020, the company acquired the rights to the Green River Distilling Co. name, with the approval of McCulloch's great-grandson, Rob McCulloch, and paid homage to its heritage with distinctive bottle features. In the summer of 2022, Bardstown Bourbon Company, renowned for its collaborations and house releases, acquired Green River. \xa0 We've been fans of the Green River bourbons since they were first released, delicious bourbons at an incredible price point. When we try and find rye offerings in that similar price range, the options here have been much slimmer. That was, until it's launch today.\xa0 \xa0 The whiskey is a blend of four-to-six year old barrels that have all been distilled, aged and bottled at Green River Distilling Co.(DSP-KY-10), located in Owensboro, KY. Green river Rye joins the flagship Green River Bourbon and Green River Wheated as the third expression in its core lineup. Presented at 95 proof (47.5 ABV), with a mashbill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley, it is line-priced with the rest of the portfolio. We think this just may be the best valued rye on the market right now. \xa0 The nose dances on oolong tea a touch, with gentle vanilla, baking spices and sweet bread pudding.\xa0 Fresh orange peel, vanilla pudding, and key lime pie greet you on the palate, crisp and creamy with spearmint and black pepper ending the sips. Well coating, creamy mouthfeel. The finish is medium in length, with buttery graham cracker pie crust, black walnut bitters, and charred oak.\xa0 \xa0 |
