Sydney Paige Foundation’s 2nd Annual Color of Impact Gala features TAYE DIGGS, sponsored by JTA FOUNDATION and MATSON LOGISTICS

PERFORMER SPOTLIGHT: TAYE DIGGS

Taye Diggs is an award-winning actor, children’s book author, and literacy ambassador. Taye has been the Child Literacy Ambassador at the National Head Start Association since 2016. His passion for literacy was first inspired by his mom, an elementary school teacher in Newark, NJ.Now as a father, Taye sees the importance that books can have on young minds, and he is determined to help the most at-risk children in our country succeed in school and in life.He also understands the value of having teachers and adults who validate who you are, like his mom did for him growing up in a neighborhood where no one looked like him and he was often made fun of for being different. This experience inspired his first children’s book, Chocolate Me, and Taye has gone on to write four other children’s books, focusing on themes like self esteem, friendship, race, and parent separation.

As an actor, Taye is known for his television, film, and Broadway roles. He rose to fame in the film How Stella Got Her Groove Back, and is also well known for his role as landlord Benny in Rent (Broadway & film), in TV series Private Practice and All American, and in films Chicago, Brown Sugar, and The Best Man.
