Pharrell Williams’s message of unity at Louis Vuitton came across loud and clear, even watching via the live-stream. There was the UNESCO Headquarters setting with its 193 flags flapping in the wind, there was the live chorus and an accompanying orchestra performing in uplift mode. Most powerfully there were the LV team members who joining Williams for a bow all wore chore jackets printed with the words “Le Monde est à Vous. That’s “The World is Yours,” in French and, as Amy Verner, a Runway contributor and a Canadian expert on all things française, informed me, it’s a nod toLa Haine, an iconic French film about social class and the marginalization of the country’s immigrants. In a preview, Williams called the show “an homage to human beings”—all human beings. Read Luke Leitch’s review.
