Laird Borrelli-Persson is Vogue Runway’s resident completist. She’d have us shoot every runway look front and back if we could secure the space on the photo pit risers. We haven’t been able to manage that—yet—but at her urging we asked our photographers to focus on rear views at fashion’s top shows for the first time this season. And what a great idea. Constructions that were different coming than going were a trend—see Prada or Jun Takahashi’s Undercover, for starters. Laird hypothesizes that this development has something to do with designers’ interest in materiality and a collectivized penchant for the collage aesthetic. Possibly… or it could be that we’ve all been trained by our online shopping habits to examine both front and back views of garments, and it’s just more compelling for the second glimpse to include a surprise. Either way, she’s gathered the season’s best back-views for your delectation. Enjoy!
