People sometimes argue there’s nothing new in fashion, but our list of most-viewed fall 2024 shows says differently. Five of the 10 brands didn’t make the cut last season—that’s a first. And that’s not the only record broken: The ranking has never been majority women-led brands until now. A welcome shift given the online discussions about the lack of women in top design jobs. Both of Miuccia Prada’s collections made the top 10, and so did Virginie Viard’s Chanel, Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Christian Dior, Chemena Kamali’s Chloé, and Stella McCartney, the one and only. McCartney had Paul and Ringo in her front row, the celebrity gets of the season, but I like to think it was her climate change manifesto that garnered her all the attention. She enlisted Olivia Colman to read an entreaty from Earth, the mother of us all.
